Global Indigenous Women's Observatory

against Violence “Wodum”.

The “Wodum” Observatory is a global tool led by Indigenous Women that integrates interdisciplinary and multi-actor approaches to provide substantive information that serves as evidence of progress in implementing the General Recommendation 39 of CEDAW on the rights of Indigenous Women and Girls.

The name “Wodum” comes from Papora, an indigenous language spoken in Taiwan, Province of China, and it means powerful women, power, and spirit against violence, hopelessness, and weakness. This name conveys a very important message, emphasizing the importance of empowering Indigenous women and their ability to resist and overcome the violence and challenges they face in their daily lives.
